CSEN 1083 Data Mining

Course Information

  • Data mining aims at understanding how to extract useful and novel knowledge from data, and turn this knowledge to actionable insights. The course provides the necessary processes, techniques, and algorithms that enable knowledge discovery and extraction. Various techniques from diverse background disciplines can be used to mine the data, such as regression, correlation, association rules mining, classification, cluster analysis, and outlier analysis. For these techniques to produce actionable insights, potential data sources need to be identified, and data needs to be preprocessed, Decisions makers and analysts use the results from data mining tasks in two directions: description and prediction. This course introduces the concepts of data preprocessing, analysis, and outcome evaluation concepts in detail.
