Before you complain that g-apl does not work with you.. please check the following:

1. You have JDK 1.6
2. You make the path point to java.exe inside the JDK1.6\bin folder
3. At uni: enable the proxy, 50.0.0.5 for laptops and enter ur guc username & password
4. At home: no proxy, and the internet connection is working

Any other g-apl problems/inquiries.. just post them here.

The greatest issue of them all is that gapl doesn't work on many of windows 7 versions ..

the RPC error shows on many stages ... for example if u succeed to login the same error could show up while running tests..

Mine doesn't read the files asln ,,...although i browsed for an empty folder to test it ,, it also gave me the same errors that means that it sees me project folder as if it's an empty one!

Zeinab, are you sure you are browsing the write files ... are you choosing the one called "src" ... and are you sure that you actually saved all your codes inside this "src" folder ???

If you experiencing problems while testing your ATOMIX engines using G-APL, have a look at these common mistakes:

1. Reading the errors:

testMoveAtom(AtomixLevel1Test): java.lang.AssertionError: VALID: moving H, 1-West up

means that in the the test method named "testMoveAtom"... it could not move the Hydrogen atom with 1 bond west (-H), the move was in the UP direction. This move is a VALID move, however your code was returning false for it.

2. You can read from a stream only ONCE, if ur code reads from the code twice then this causes an error >>> FIX IT.. by reading into an ArrayList of strings, and use that for initialising your boards.

3. Your board may not have been initialised correctly using the stream>> TO VERIFY THIS>>> download the test class, place it in the right location, adding the JUnit 4 library... and then print the board after the makeBoard is called to check this point on the console visually.

4. The atoms array: your array of atoms must contain the atoms in the SAME order as that listed in the file

5. The MOVE method: the directions must be capital letters 'U', 'D', 'L', 'R' ...

6. The MOVE method must move the atom AND return true if it WAS moved (i.e. does BOTH), it returns false if the move was not possible

Those are the common troubles that I came across while debugging your work.

Compiling false? >> Make sure that your java files are ALL placed in ONE package named:

eg.edu.guc.atomix.engine

You still have tomorrow, submit on g-apl from uni. It is working from there. I can send you the test class if you want and add it to ur project (adding the JUnit 4 library).
