Renewable Energy Research Centre

The German University in Cairo

Vision

The Renewable Energy Research Centre at the German University in Cairo is a novel enterprise that started in the Spring 2010 by a series of meetings that brought together the three Engineering faculties of the GUC (Media and Engineering Technologies, Information and Engineering Technologies, Engineering and Material Science). The research fields include Engineering, Mechatronics, Economics, Optimization and simulation tools. Its core vision is to demonstrate and develop the multi-disciplinary research potentials that constitute the broad field of renewable energies among all the faculties of the GUC, expanding the Engineering ones to also include Pharmacy and Biotechnology as well as the Management faculties. Egypt benefits from great potentials in wind as well as solar potentials.

Existing and coming initiatives to exploit such potentials, shared within the MENA region countries (Middle East and North Africa) to deliver energy to Europe in the future require further research on the installation and development of the appropriate technologies as well as the techno-economics aspects. Egypt has the potentials and the capabilities to be a pioneer in this field; the GUC vision is to develop these potentials and establish strong collaborations with international partners to fulfill this vision.

Objectives

Renewable Energy Research Centre at the GUC aims first at showcasing the results and current projects carried out at the GUC in the multi-disciplinary field of renewable energy. Our objectives are to address the most important issues in research in Egypt in terms of wind energy, solar energy,Energy storage,Water treatment and desalination,Smart grid,Techno-economics and Simulation tools.
